Doing things the hard way ⇒

October 16th, 2010 by

I have been reading up a lot on health and how to maintain a health lifestyle. There is lots of interesting research out there, including and article that showed that it didn’t matter much if people exercised if they sat most of the day (in the office, in the car, etc).

Back in the Good Ol’ Days, people did things “the hard way”. Walked to work, hand mowed their lawn, hung up their laundry, didn’t watch TV. Basically, they did “stuff” to keep active. These days we are all about doing things faster and more efficiently, but have we taken a step back to see what the long term effects of no doing “stuff” anymore are?

For example, I don’t like mowing my lawn. I bought a push mower a year or so ago but last week I thought about getting an electric or gas mower, so that I do the lawn quicker. And I never used to rake the lawn either…I just let the grass and leaves sit there.

Today I realized that I am going to start doing things the hard way, if I can. I am keeping my mower. I am going to rake the lawn. All these little things make me just a little more active, which will help my health. Not to mention the lesson for the girls.
